How to make pizza with the help of your Z Wrap!

We love discovering new and innovative ways to use Z Wraps in the kitchen.  We recently heard from an avid baker and Z Wrap lover, who rolls out pie crust and bread dough on our beeswax wraps.  She then transfers the dough, via the wrap, to a pan or, wraps-it-up, to chill in the fridge. We’ve learned you can roll out all kinds of dough from pastries, to pie crust, to pizza and bread.  

We thought this was such a great idea, we asked local Chef, Bill Collins, to help us try it out.  Since we’re kid friendly around here, the Pizza recipe won out. While Pizza is the first thing we think of when ordering takeout, it’s actually pretty easy and fun to make at home.  It’s even easier if you buy a ready made dough (Trader Joe’s sells one for .99 cents!), and, if you’re gluten free, Red Mill, has a great pizza dough mix - so you’re covered too!

What’s cool about making your own dough, is that you control the ingredients and can ditch the preservatives.  This recipe from Chef Bill, is clean and simple, and when you're done, clean-up consists of picking up the wrap and washing it in the sink.  

 

Pizza Dough Recipe

1 1/4 cups warm water (105°F to 115°F)

1 envelope (2 ¼ teaspoons) active dry yeast

1 teaspoon sugar

3 cups all-purpose flour

1 1/2 teaspoons kosher salt

2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil

Olive oil for baking

the toppings of your choice (attached)

To get the dough ready:

  1.   Combine the water, yeast, and sugar until dissolved, about 5 minutes.  Let stand until foamy, about 5 minutes.
  2.   In large bowl, whisk together flour and salt. Add yeast mixture and combined. Add oil
  3.   Knead until dough is elastic.
  4.   Lightly oil large bowl. Gently shape dough into ball and transfer to bowl. Turn over several times to coat lightly with oil, then cover and let rise in warm place 80°F to 85°F, until doubled in size, about 1 to 1 ½ hours.

  • You’re now ready to make a pizza
  •      Dough can be refrigerated and/or frozen

This recipe will make 2, 12” pizzas, or 4-6 smaller ones.

General Pizza Notes:

  •      Bake the pizza at 450°. Preheat the oven with the pizza stone or tiles in  before heating the oven
  •      The pizza will take 12-15 minutes to bake.
  •      It’s easier to roll out the dough, then place it on a pizza peel (also called a paddle) which has been sprinkled with corn meal. This will help the pizza to slide on and off, into and out of the oven
